Modern Day Explorer

About

Michael has been exploring nature’s darkest corners for over 25 years. His career has included leading expeditions, mapping caves, piloting ROUVs, 3D modeling artifacts, archaeological surveys, and uncovering some of the most beautiful hidden landscapes.

MMichael grew up in suburbs of Rhode Island with the ocean on his doorstep. Though he spent much of his early life exploring the bays, he always heard the call from locations very few have investigated.  Next to the woods, his second favorite place was the library. If he wasn’t exploring forests, he was exploring books which often would inspire his next quest. His long hours of research combined with an interest in the natural world, history, archaeology, and geography, have driven him to rediscover many lost historical geological features and location.

Michael is a member of the National Speleological Society (NSS), The Explorers Club, and American Spelean History Association (ASHA.) For the past 10 years he has written articles on long-lost historical caves for the Northeastern Cavers Quarterly Journal, and his work has been references in scientific publications. Having journeyed through some of the last great wildernesses, Michael has a particular concern for preserving wild places and historical location. Michael is available as a guest speaker and has entertained audiences at venues across America and Europe.

BOUNDARIES

Underground Exploration

Michael is a professional adventurer and has been involved in exploring the underground for over 25 years. He has been described as a “cross between Indiana Jones and Jacques Cousteau,” by the East Greenwich Pendulum. His passion to push the boundaries of exploration is entertaining and infectious.

Underwater Exploration

Michael grew up with a sea on his doorstep, and he began exploring below its surface at a young age. His fascination with this alien world soon extended to the flooded passages of caves and ancient mines. Using modern technology he has opened up a window into the geology, biology and history previously out of our reach. He is one of the few who are exploring the true final frontier on this planet, deep within Inner Space.
